The charity has awarded grants totalling around
£220,000 to some 35 organisations and causes in
the last ten years.
Some of the organisations we have assisted
have written:
-
"This donation will be of huge and
tangible benefit to children with
Profound and Multiple Learning
Difficulties, complex medical needs and
Acquired Brain Injury.
Please pass
on our sincere thanks to the Trustees
for their interest and help. Without
such support, we would not be able to
provide such a wide range of activities
which add to the good quality of life
for the children in our care." (June
2011: £1,318 to fund specialist play
equipment at The Children's Trust,
School for Profound Education.)
-
"This donation will enable us to continue
our work with children in Kent, developing
their literacy skills and therefore helping
them to improve their self-confidence and
ability to communicate. Our reading
helpers encourage children to develop their
literacy and learning skills, subsequently
building a love of .)books and reading through
long-term, one-to-one support. They
therefore enable the children to build the
skills they need to engage with their
learning, progress in education and fulfil
their potential in life."
(February 2011: £3,300 to recruit and train
three new volunteer helpers as part of a
project to extend reading support work in
Kent by
Volunteer Reading Help)

"Jigsaw
School has recently expanded into a third
building. This extra space has allowed
us to provide additional facilities and
resources for pupils, including a dedicated
Art Room. Your grant will allow us to
furnish the room with adjustable height
tables, chairs, cupboards, storage units and
trolleys." (February 2011: £3,120 towards
equipping a new Art Room at
Jigsaw School, Guildford)
- "We are delighted that Downlands
Educational Trust has chosen to support us.
The specialist IT and computer equipment for
children and young people with speech and
communication difficulties will assist them
to meet the challenges of technology in the
21st century. In turn this will assist
their personal and learning development and
help transform their lives. On behalf
of St Catherine's, thank you for your
generous support." (June 2010: £3,000
towards a £20k upgrade and refit of an
IT/computer room with specialist adaptive
technology at
St
Catherine's, a school for children and
young people with speech, language and
communication impairments, Ventnor, IoW)

- "I am pleased to say both our new LCD
screens have been fitted and are working.
The children love working with them as it is
so much more exciting for them to have
interactive multi-sensory teaching - they
certainly help their attention span!" (June
2010: £2,374 to 50% fund 2 screens for the
drama room and school hall at
Knowl
Hill School, Pirbright)

“Two hugely generous donations to St
Edward's have enabled us to purchase state
of the art musical recording equipment, new
musical instruments and a (very loud) PA
system. Downlands Educational Trust
very kindly awarded £5,000,
and this cash injection has provided
virtually all the equipment we need to
install into a Music Recording Studio.
The equipment is already in use in school
and will, further funding pending,
eventually be housed in a studio which is
part constructed. Our friends at Brewin Dolphin also handed us a handsome
cheque for £1,500 to buy a new PA system.
As a result, boys can now develop their
musical abilities as guitarists, keyboard
players and drummers, compose and record
their own music and perform in public with
the aid of superb instruments.” (from the
spring 2008
newsletter of
